A family visit to the Gig Harbor Maritime Museum

We visited the Gig Harbor Maritime Museum last month and had a fantastic time as a family. It was the monthly free day, and the kids loved the large wooden boat and learning about Galloping Gertie”, the old Tacoma Gig Harbor bridge that shook violently in 1940. We also visited the old school house and watched an interesting presentation on what life was like without school buses and organized transportation for the kids. It was really interesting to hear how kids typically walked for miles to get to school each day and then home after. A student was responsible for starting the fire in the stove each morning for the teacher’s arrival. The kids loved to sit in the desks and learn just how different times were then.
